How Brainerd lakes business websites score.

In October 2026 we ran 31 Brainerd, Baxter and Nisswa small-business websites through our free website checker. The good news: most are in solid shape. The most common gaps are small, free fixes.

Most common gapSitesWhat it means
Location signals for Google17 of 28No embedded map, map link or business details Google can read, which matters for "near me" searches.
Google title and description11 of 28The page title or description Google shows is missing or generic.
Tap-to-call9 of 28The phone number is there, but you can't tap it to call. Phone visitors have to copy it by hand.
Quote, booking or contact form6 of 28No way to reach the business from the home page without calling.
Out-of-date footer4 of 28The copyright year in the footer is two or more years old, which makes customers wonder if the business is still open.

How we checked: we picked 31 local business websites that show up in Bing searches like "roofing Baxter MN", "cafe Brainerd MN" and "dock and lift Brainerd" (contractors, restaurants and cafes, salons, auto, docks, landscaping, builders, a resort and a dentist). Our checker loads each home page the way a phone would and checks 9 things: security, download speed, phone layout, tap-to-call, Google title and description, a quote or contact form, location info, an up-to-date footer and a clean build. 3 sites blocked automated checks, so 28 were scored. Sites that already rank in search tend to be the stronger ones, so the typical local business may score lower. This is a quick automated check, not a full audit. We're not naming individual businesses.

Do it yourself

5 free fixes any owner can make this week

1. Make your phone number tappable

In most website builders, link your number as a phone link (tel:). One change, and every phone visitor can call you with one tap.

2. Add your address and a map

Put your town, service area and a Google map on your home or contact page so Google knows exactly where you are.

3. Write a real page title and description

Your home page title should say what you do and where, like "Roofing in Baxter, MN | Your Business". Add a one-sentence description too.

4. Add a simple quote or contact form

Many customers browse at night. A short form lets them reach you while you sleep.

5. Update the little things

Change the footer year, check your hours, and open your site on your phone once a month to make sure everything still works.

Who did this report?

Doorway Web Co., a small web design studio based in Brainerd, Minnesota. We build websites for local businesses, and we build them first, so owners see the finished site before paying.

Can I check my own website?

Yes. Our free website score at doorwaywebco.com/website-score/ runs the same 9 checks and gives plain-English fixes. No signup.

Why don't you name the businesses?
